Housing

Students are housed either in centrally located apartments or with families, in accordance with their preferences. Students living with Italian families eat breakfast and supper with them seven days a week. Students living in furnished apartments usually do their own grocery shopping, an enjoyable opportunity to practice Italian, and cook their own meals. Of course, reasonable restaurants, cafeterias and snack bars are everywhere. The school "Lorenzo de' Medici" has its own snack bar.

Program Director and On-site Advisors

Group of Florence students

After more than 30 years leading the program, Professor Giorgio Renzi will no longer be involved with day-to-day administration of the program effective the spring semester of 2010. Program administration has moved back to Wells College where John Wells, Director Off-Campus Study, and Amy Torea, the Program Coordinator for Wells in Florence will oversee all aspects of cultural preparation and application processing. John brings more than 18 years of experience working in the field of study abroad while Amy spent more than five years living abroad and teaching English as a Second Language. Professor Renzi remains involved in a consultative status and will lead his last orientation program in Spring 2010.

Once abroad, you will be supported by the experienced Wells College program staff. Two program advisors are available to help lead orientation, provide academic assistance, and consult on cultural adjustments while abroad. The program advisors, who are in regular contact with Wells College staff back in the US, will be your support network while abroad. Together, the team of people working on Wells in Florence provides you the planning, academic, and cultural expertise to maximize your academic, cultural, and personal growth while abroad.
